Behind the scenes, we are currently working on a new website. Much of the main functionality is the same, blog posts, etc., but we will soon offer a web dashboard to manage server and user preferences. Here are some screenshots of the work in progress!
But, as we make a newer website, requirements are shifting in some of the data we use to operate the bot and this new website. We currently don’t have a concrete timeline for when we’ll launch this, but we’re hoping to do so in the coming couple months.
Provided below is the text of the new Terms of Service, which will go into effect upon the launch of the new website:
Please read these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”, “Terms and Conditions”) carefully before using the BibleBot Discord bot (Bot ID: 361033318273384449) and/or the BibleBot website (collectively, the “Service”) operated by Kerygma Digital Co. (“We”, “Us”, or “Our”). These Terms apply to all users of the Service.
Your access to and use of the Service is conditioned on your acceptance of and compliance with these Terms. These Terms apply to all visitors, users and others who access or use the Service. These Terms include and incorporate the Discord Terms of Service, which can be found here, and the Discord Privacy Policy, which can be found here.
By accessing or using the Service you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of the terms then it is your responsibility to stop using the Service and request an opt out. Instructions for opting out are provided in this document below.
The Service is not available to persons under the age of 13. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you are at least 13 years of age. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.
Service Description
The Service is primarily a Discord bot that allows you to reference Bible verses through inputting a reference and receiving the appropriate result. Additionally, it allows for user and server preferences in regards to Bible translation used, interface language used, automated functions (such as the Automatic Daily Verse), and various formatting preferences. The Service also contains comands that are solely for vanity purposes and have no core function outside of a simple message (e.g. /invite). Additionally, the Service provides a web interface to manage the various preferences, offer updates on the Service, and provide documentation on using the Service. For the Discord bot, all commands can be found documented by using /biblebot in a Discord text-based channel where BibleBot has the appropriate permissions or by visiting our Usage and Commands page.
The Service is provided “as is” and we make no warranties about its availability or accuracy. Additionally, we reserve the right to refuse usage of the Service to anyone for any reason at any time.
User Obligations
You are responsible for your use of the Service, content you submit or post to the Service, security of your account, and for any consequences thereof. You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms.
As a user of the Service, you agree to:
- Use the Service in compliance with Discord’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
- Not use the Service for spam or harassment
- Not use the Service for any illegal or unauthorized purposes
- Not use the Service to collect or store personal information about other users
As a user of the Service, you are obliged but not required to:
- Report any issues or concerns, especially pertaining to security or privacy, through appropriate channels
- Respect the religious nature of the content provided
- Use the Service in a manner consistent with the Christian ethos
- Not use the Service in the promotion of ideologies that seek to harm or oppress others
Privacy and Data
The Service collects the minimal data necessary for functionality, including but not limited to:
- User and server identifiers (e.g. Discord snowflakes)
- User and server preferences (e.g. Bible translation, interface language, formatting, etc.)
- Server metrics (e.g. number of users, number of servers, number of channels, etc.)
For the web interface, this also includes:
- Usernames and email addresses associated with your Discord account
- Discord avatar URLs
The Service does not log any message data beyond commands used or Bible references invoked, never the entire message. In rare cases, message content may be used in troubleshooting issues in the Service. The Service does not interact with messages that do not pertain to the Service (e.g. commands, Bible references, etc.).
The data we collect is used in the following ways:
- To provide the Service to you, tailored to any relevant preferences
- To improve the Service, including but not limited to bug fixes, performance improvements, and new features
- To facilitate metrics and analytics, including but not limited to server usage, user usage, and command usage
- To comply with legal obligations, including but not limited to data retention and data deletion
The Service does not sell your data to third parties. However, we may share anonymized data on version preferences as required by licensing agreements.
As bot developers, we are bound to the Discord Developer Terms of Service, which can be found here, and the Discord Developer Policy, which can be found here.
Links To Other Websites
The Service may contain links to other websites or services that are not owned or controlled by us.
We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party websites or services. You acknowledge and agree that Kerygma Digital Co. is not responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such content, goods or services available on or through any such websites or services.
Service Availability
We strive to maintain high availability but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service may be temporarily unavailable at any time for maintenance or updates. We are not liable for any downtime or loss of data due to the Service being unavailable.
Opting Out
The Service does not store any data that is not strictly provided to the Service. Therefore, you may request that the Service ignore your interactions by contacting us (see contact information below) with your user or server IDs (see here for how to obtain these IDs).
All opt out requests will be processed within 72 hours. Any data applicable to the IDs (besides the IDs themselves to opt you out) given will be removed and will not be recovered for any purpose.
Changes to Terms
We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to modify or replace these Terms at any time. We will try to provide at least 30 days notice prior to any changes taking effect. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
